Alto Vista Walking Trail

Best before 10 AM or after 5 PM

Bring water and good shoes

Cactus trails, ocean views, and a quieter side of Aruba best explored outside the midday heat.

The Alto Vista area feels quieter by default. Dusty walking trails, roaming goats, giant cacti, and constant wind give this part of the island a completely different atmosphere from the resort areas further south.

The easiest place to start is near the Alto Vista Chapel parking area, where several walking paths branch off into the surrounding landscape. Early mornings and late afternoons are by far the best time to go. After around 5 PM, the light becomes softer, temperatures drop, and the entire area feels calmer and more beautiful to walk through.

Bring proper shoes, water, and avoid walking here during the hottest hours of the day. Many of the trails are rocky, uneven, and surrounded by cacti, with very little shade once you leave the road behind.

The reward is the feeling of suddenly seeing a much quieter, more open version of Aruba, with ocean views, wind, silence, and long stretches where the only thing you hear is gravel under your shoes.
