The Donkey Sanctuary gives visitors a chance to support something genuinely good on the island while also having one of the most unexpectedly wholesome afternoons in Aruba. Around 130 rescued donkeys live here after being abandoned, injured, or left behind around the island. The place feels somewhere between a rescue center, a peaceful little farm, and a therapy session.
Do yourself a favor and stop at the supermarket before arriving. Apples and carrots instantly turn you into the most popular person at the sanctuary. You can walk through to the little kitchen area, cut everything into smaller pieces, and then head over to the feeding fence.
Leaving gets difficult once 130 donkeys think you still have carrots. Good luck.
